Would love to work with you on this. I think I need some accountability as well as someone to help me synthesize and articulate thoughts. I am a bit concerned about cost, so anxious to hear what the $$ investment is.

1. What are your biggest challenges and fears with dating and finding love?

I tend to choose men who are emotionally unavailable. Give in to what ‘they’ want. Don’t feel like I have ideas on things to do on dates. Don’t communicate about how I ‘really’ feel out of whatever (fear maybe).

2. What does your ideal love relationship look like?

I want to be with someone who has a sense of humor, is affectionate, loves animals, doesn’t smoke, has a strong work ethic and a job, no small children, lives a healthy lifestyle for the most part. Someone who is open to the close relationship I have with my adult boys and my love of animals (I have a dog and 2 cats). Someone who is patient and kind.

3. Which of the following have you tried for the purpose of improving your love life?
Self-help books, Therapy or counseling
[1052 show=field_label]

Counseling has been the most helpful. I feel pretty damaged by all the losses I have had in my live and I have certain fears that are hard for me to deal with sometimes. More a fear of not putting myself out there.

5. If these strategies have NOT helped, explain why.

I think self help books have not helped just because I haven’t put things into action.

6. If you have experience with professional therapy or counseling specifically for issues that have affected your relationships, please briefly explain these issues:

Most of my counseling and therapy was around years of trying to save a marriage that couldn’t be saved. I was stuck for several years.

8. If you met your ideal romantic partner, your life would change in these ways:

10. Your biggest fears and frustrations about dating and finding love include:

Putting myself out there can be scary. I’m really hard on myself and my self confidence is lower than it could be. I’m a little overweight and that bothers me a lot. I have food issues that I’m trying to work on.

11. What are you specifically wanting and expecting from private coaching :

I don’t really know what to expect so keeping an open mind.

1. What are your biggest challenges and fears with dating and finding love?

At this moment I am ending a 32 year marriage. I am unsure how to approach dating. I am afraid that at my age it will be difficult to find an available man that shares my interests and is young at heart. I think I may have lost my dating skills. Also the idea itself of dating seems daunting and maybe full of rejection itself. At this point I can not handle any more rejection.

2. What does your ideal love relationship look like?

Since I have not completed the program I am sure what I will write is very preliminary. My ideal love relationship would be one where we worked as a team, where we could appreciate both the weaknesses and strengths of the other person. Where there was room to be an individual but also a desire to be a couple. Where we shared many of the same interests and enjoyed discovering new interests. I consider myself to be a life long learner and a person who is excited by possibilities. I would like to find someone who shared my excitement about what could be but who also has organizational skills and intelligence to help make possibilities a reality. I would like there to be mutual appreciation and respect. I would like my partner to enjoy listening to me and my ideas as much as I would hope to find their ideas interesting and enjoyable. I am interested in conversation, coziness, and the ability plan activities as well as spontaneously decide to do something fun. Ideally we could find interests that were shared by other friends. Also my ideal partner would have a head and a heart — they would be able to appreciate their feminine side and my masculine side. They would not be threatened by my strengths.

3. Which of the following have you tried for the purpose of improving your love life?
Magazine or online articles, etc., Self-help books, Therapy or counseling
[1052 show=field_label]

I have learned that both people have to try to improve a situation. That how you act is more important than what you say. That it is important to be honest and to honor your word. It is important to be able to talk about problems rather than ignore them. And that you shouldn’t let one problem invade your whole relationship.
I hope I have learned more than this but since my marriage ended I would say the strategies did not help my love life.

5. If these strategies have NOT helped, explain why.

I think the strategies did not work because my partner was not comfortable discussing difficult emotions and did not like confrontation. Or being questioned. My partner wanted to be right all of the time and found that my personality was perhaps too assertive.

6. If you have experience with professional therapy or counseling specifically for issues that have affected your relationships, please briefly explain these issues:

Infidelity

8. If you met your ideal romantic partner, your life would change in these ways:

I would hope that if I met my ideal romantic partner my life would become more fulfilling as I would have someone to share my hopes and joys with as well as my sorrows and disappointments. Someone I could build a history with although at my age I realize I will never build a history in the way I orginially hoped with anyone else. I am looking for someone to share my life.

9. Which of the following statements describe you? (check all that apply)
I am open-minded and willing to try dating a new way with the goal of finding a long-term relationship., I see value in completing self-exploration exercises., I know I deserve love, even if I did not receive the love and nurturing I needed in the past., I am willing to learn and practice open and honest communication with others., I accept myself and love myself (or at least like myself a lot)., I am willing to recognize positive and negative patterns and behaviors in myself and in my relationships with others., If I get stuck in an area that is beyond the scope of the Seven Steps to Love program and coaching, I am willing to seek outside professional therapy or counseling.
10. Your biggest fears and frustrations about dating and finding love include:

My biggest frustration is that my marriage ended and I believe I honestly tried to be open and honest and to put that relationship at the top of my priority list for all of its years. I am frustrated that I did not see that I needed to change my approach or end the marriage sooner.

11. What are you specifically wanting and expecting from private coaching :

I am hoping that my doing the exercises and talking with someone else about them I will be able to set myself up for success by discovering what I really want, what I am really looking for and how to find it and recognize it if I do find it. I must admit I have a lot of doubt about finding anyone at all out there so I am hoping the coaching will assist me in having the courage to find new ways of meeting people.

10. Your biggest fears and frustrations about dating and finding love include:

Choosing the wrong person and feeling stuck in a relationship with someone that doesn’t ‘get’ me

11. What are you specifically wanting and expecting from private coaching :

I completed the 7 step online process and have read many other books and completed exercises to understand what I’m looking for. Historically I’ve always jumped into relationships very quickly. I started seeing a guy, Ben, about three months ago and things are going really well and I’ve been purposefully taking things slow and following the steps. We recently had a conversation about being exclusive and took a longer trip together which went great! That said, I feel like I don’t know how to move from this point to a healthy established relationship because I’ve always just jumped in before!

I’m specifically looking for coaching to establish healthy communication patterns with him, determine if we are compatible longer term and, if so, navigate going from this early phase to a deeper level of intimacy. I would also love a sounding board to help me think through times when I might feel vulnerable or unsure of the relationship to understand if they are reflective of issues in the relationship vs my own insecurities and what I should do to work through them myself and/or with him.
